What is going to chip away at Google? Facebook.

How to find your rank in Google.

Before you rank in Google you need to know what your keywords for your site are.
Use the Google keyword tool.
Local means on Google Global means all other search engines

Once you find your keywords and figure out your time and money budget,
Long tail keywords – vs – keywords
Find the sweet-spot, say they have 30,000 visitors/month and be #5 than 3,000,000 and be ranked #500

Google Was codenamed “Backrub” because it had more to do with back-links.
their results were a lot better because their results were more targeted to what the user wanted that what the web site owners wanted you to see.

How Google’s algorithm works:
23.87 Trust/Authority of the Host Domain
22.3 Link popularity of the specific Page
20.26 Anchor Text of external links to the page “the word used to link to you”
15.04 On-Page Keyword Usage “your keywords you are using on your page”
6.91 Registration + Hosting Data “this is like 3% now, if you made your stuff private etc, not a big deal anymore. dedicated server/dedicated ip”
6.29 Traffic + CRT Data “Click through rate data, Google knows what people click on and adjust ranking accordingly”
5.3 Social Graph Metrics “This is probably 10% now, Google realizes that social media is taking off and knows that socail media is a great source for real-time news”

You can find out about an earthquake while its going on with twitter, with google it takes much longer.

Google does not rate websites, it rates web-pages.

DO NOT put keywords that are in your meta / keywords that are not on your site. Google looks at this and can tell if you are
Google does not read keywords. It will only read keywords if that is all you have.

WRITE CONTENT FOR THE USER!

Organize your keywords into groups.
most general words —> most specific keywords

Homepage —-> Category Page ——>Product/Service Page —–> Ultra Specific Product Attributes
High Level —->Specific Theme ——>Target Specific Product—-> Super Targeted Product

If you have two pages that are really similar the best way to differentiate is

Info-graphics, Blog Writing, YouTube Videos
Who Owns the most servers inforgraphic?
The biggest cost for google is the cost of cooling their servers.

Take really robust information and break it down into understandable graphics that are entertaining
Where does the money Go? Sites shared it and brought in 31,000 links

What makes a Good Graphic?
Info-graphic

What is a Peta-byte?
info-graphic

Google Webmaster Tools
Yahoo Site Explorer
Digg, Redit, StumbleUpon

Twitter v.s. facebook
Twitter has caught up with facebook in awareness, as many people know about twitter as they do about facebook.

CMS’s
Joomla,Mambo,Wordpress

Internal links “links from your site to other pages on your site”
External links “links from your site to another site”

Canonical URLs
www.blah.com

http://www.blah.com

http://blah.com

http://blah.com/index.html

http://www.blah.com/index.html

www.blah.com/index.html

.htaccess file and 301 redirects

Clients pay to move down bad pages from the rankings of keywords.
You don’t want to have more than 100 outbound links on a page.

One way links are the best.
Google does not like reciprocal links that have nothing to do with each other.

Google Page Rank:
Problems with Google page rank is that it is about 6 months old.
Don’t worry about page rank. You can get ranked for keywords without being highly ranked.
It depends on the keywords. Start with specific keywords until your site builds trust and rank and then work your way back to high level keywords.

Directories
Bloggers in your industry, go on their blog and negotiate a guest post
Organizations
Similar industry but don’t sell the same products

Seomoz.org -their paid program is very good
Seobook.com -their blog is amazing and they have a lot of free tools
SearchEngineLand.com -whats happening, whats changing in the industry
Googlewebmasters blog -

Google Pagerank is patented so once it got released it became public everyone knew how it worked.
Google is consistently changing their algorithm

dofollow vs nofollow Links

Twitter is good for business’s but you need to get a lot of followers.
